Zamfara | House of representatives
Zubairu Bungudu Abdulmalik, widely known as Abdulmalik Zubairu Zanna Bungudu, is a Nigerian politician and member of the House of Representatives representing the Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency of Zamfara State. He was born on 27 September 1978 and is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Parliamentary records identify him as a third-term member of the House, having served from 2015–2019, 2019–2023 and 2023–2027.
Zubairu's educational background is in political science and international relations. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Bayero University Kano and a Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. His academic training in political science, international affairs and diplomacy has been relevant to his subsequent career in public administration and legislative politics.
Before entering the National Assembly, Zubairu was involved in the Zamfara State civil service and organized labour. He served in the state public service and later became involved with the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), eventually serving as the union's state president. This experience gave him exposure to local-government administration and the concerns of public-sector workers before his transition into elective politics.
Zubairu entered the House of Representatives in 2015, beginning his first term as the representative of Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency. He subsequently retained the seat in the 2019 general election and again in 2023, giving him continuous representation of the constituency across three successive National Assembly terms. His long tenure has made him one of the more experienced members of Zamfara's federal delegation.
His legislative interests have included security, education, healthcare, youth development and economic empowerment. One notable legislative initiative was his sponsorship of a bill seeking to establish the Federal Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship in Bungudu, Zamfara State. The bill was read for a second time in the House in October 2023 and was referred to the relevant committee for further consideration.
Zubairu has also been associated with constituency development and social interventions. His official APC profile states that he has sponsored 27 bills as of early 2026 and has supported projects involving schools, health centres and other community infrastructure. The profile also identifies the Zubawa Women and Children Hospital as one of his initiatives and lists empowerment interventions involving motorcycles, sewing machines, generators and school furniture.
In September 2026, reports highlighted another large-scale empowerment exercise in Bungudu. Zubairu distributed 100 vehicles to constituents, alongside sewing machines, computers, motorcycles, generators and transformers. According to the report, he said the interventions were intended to support women, youths and vulnerable households and help beneficiaries develop economic activities. The event was attended by Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal and former Governor Abdulaziz Yari.
Zubairu has also remained active in Zamfara's political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections. The APC's 2027 candidate directory lists Zubairu Bungudu Abdulmalik as its House of Representatives candidate for Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency. A separate 2027 candidate record based on the final candidate list also identifies him as the APC candidate for the constituency.
Overall, Zubairu Bungudu Abdulmalik's political career combines experience in public administration, organized labour and federal legislative representation. His three-term tenure in the House has focused on issues affecting security, education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, while his constituency activities have included infrastructure and economic-support initiatives. With his listing as the APC candidate for Bungudu/Maru in the 2027 House of Representatives election, his political career continues to centre on federal representation of the constituency he has represented since 2015.
