About Yakubu Jaafaru (Hon.)

Hon. Jaafaru Chiroma Yakubu is a Nigerian politician, former police officer and federal legislator from Taraba State. He represents the Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was elected to the 10th National Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his public career combines more than a decade of experience in security service with subsequent experience in politics and legislative representation. Parliamentary records identify him as a member representing Bali/Gassol.

Yakubu was born on 25 February 1977. Parliamentary records list his educational qualification as a Bachelor of Science degree. Other biographical accounts report that he graduated from the University of Maiduguri before undergoing professional police training at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil. His academic and professional preparation subsequently led him into a career with the Nigeria Police Force, where he rose to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.

His career in the Nigeria Police Force gave him extensive experience in security and public administration. A significant part of his professional history involved serving as an aide-de-camp to senior political figures. He served as ADC to former Deputy Speaker Babangida S. M. Nguroje and subsequently to former Deputy Speaker Usman Bayero Nafada. He later became an ADC to Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and subsequently as Governor of Sokoto State.

Yakubu's association with Tambuwal lasted for many years. Reports indicate that he served as Tambuwal's ADC from 2011 until 2022, giving him considerable exposure to the workings of the National Assembly, executive government and political administration. This experience placed him in close proximity to legislative and governmental processes before he eventually decided to leave the police service and pursue elective office.

In 2022, Yakubu left the Nigeria Police Force and entered electoral politics. He subsequently secured the PDP nomination to contest the Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 House of Representatives election. He won the election with 43,315 votes and became the federal representative for Bali and Gassol in the 10th National Assembly. His election marked the transition from a career in professional public service to direct legislative representation.

Since entering the House of Representatives, Yakubu has been associated with constituency and development issues involving infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, electricity, water supply and security. His background in the police service has also influenced his attention to security-related concerns. Reports on his constituency activities have highlighted interventions involving roads and community infrastructure, with particular attention to the relationship between poor infrastructure, economic activity and security.

His representation of Bali/Gassol has also involved community-oriented initiatives. Public reports have associated him with assistance to vulnerable residents, agricultural and empowerment activities, support for local security structures and infrastructure projects. These activities form part of his wider constituency-engagement profile during his first term in the National Assembly.

Yakubu's political career took another turn in 2026 when he moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection brought him into the APC's political structure ahead of the 2027 election cycle. The APC's 2027 candidate directory subsequently lists Yakubu Jaafaru as its House of Representatives candidate for the Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency.

For the 2027 general election, therefore, Yakubu Jaafaru is seeking to continue representing Bali/Gassol, this time under the APC platform. His political journey is notable for the transition from a professional security career into federal politics, followed by his experience as a member of the 10th National Assembly. His background in the Nigeria Police Force, long association with senior government officials and experience representing Bali/Gassol form the principal elements of his public career.
