Rivers | House of representatives
Nwaeke Felix Uche is a Nigerian politician and public servant from Rivers State who represents the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was born on 16 June 1963 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree. He entered national politics after establishing himself in local government administration and Rivers State politics, and he is currently serving in the 10th National Assembly.
Nwaeke hails from Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State and has maintained a strong political presence in the area for many years. Before his election to the National Assembly, he served as the Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area from 2011 to 2014. His period in local government administration formed an important part of his political career and gave him experience in grassroots governance and community administration.
During his tenure as Oyigbo council chairman, Nwaeke became associated with a number of local development and community-oriented initiatives. Reports on his administration highlight efforts involving local infrastructure, youth engagement and support for residents. His administration also supported the construction and furnishing of the Oyigbo Local Government Council complex and introduced measures aimed at improving security and administrative operations within the local government.
Nwaeke subsequently moved into federal politics, eventually winning election to the House of Representatives to represent Eleme, Tai and Oyigbo. He became a member of the 10th National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His election brought his experience in local government administration into the federal legislative arena, where issues affecting his constituency—including employment, infrastructure, electricity and industrial development—have featured in his legislative activities.
One notable aspect of Nwaeke's legislative work has been his attention to issues affecting communities around Oyigbo and the Afam industrial and power corridor. In July 2025, he sponsored a motion concerning the employment of qualified indigenous contract workers by the Transmission Company of Nigeria at the Afam sub-region station. The motion called for an investigation into the employment status of qualified indigenes who had worked as contract staff for several years and sought measures to address concerns over their regular employment.
Nwaeke has also sponsored legislation relating to the provision of healthcare infrastructure in his constituency. In July 2024, a bill sponsored by him seeking to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act and establish a Federal Medical Centre in Afam, Rivers State, was presented for second reading in the House of Representatives and subsequently referred to the Committee on Health Institutions. The proposal reflected his efforts to draw federal attention to healthcare needs within the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo area.
His political career has also included periods of movement between Nigeria's two major political parties. He was associated with the political structure of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, and reports indicate that Nwaeke had previously moved to the All Progressives Congress before returning to the PDP. In the 2026 political realignment in Rivers State, he again became associated with the APC and subsequently contested the party's primary election for the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency.
At the 2026 APC House of Representatives primary election, Nwaeke was returned as the party's candidate for the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency, securing 18,605 votes. His victory positioned him as the APC candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election. The APC's candidate platform also lists Nwaeke Felix Uche as its candidate for the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo constituency.
Nwaeke Felix Uche's political career therefore spans grassroots local government administration and federal legislative service. From his tenure as Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area to his current role in the National Assembly, his political activities have remained closely connected to the interests of communities in Eleme, Tai and Oyigbo. With his emergence as the APC candidate for the constituency in 2027, he remains an important figure in the political representation of the area and in Rivers State's evolving political landscape.
