About Idris Ahmed (Hon.)

Idris Ahmed Wase, commonly referred to as Ahmed Idris Wase, is a Nigerian politician and legislator from Plateau State. He represents the Wase Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has represented the constituency across multiple National Assembly terms, making him one of the longer-serving legislators from Plateau State. His date of birth is 1 June 1964, and his educational qualification includes a Higher National Diploma (HND).

Wase was born in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, into the family of Mallam Idris. He began his education at LSB Primary School, Bashar, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1978. He subsequently attended Government Secondary School, Mbar, and later Government Secondary School, Dengi. He went on to study Civil Engineering at Plateau State Polytechnic, obtaining a National Diploma in 1986, before completing a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering at Kaduna State Polytechnic in 1995. He also undertook an executive programme in Strategic Governance at Harvard Kennedy School in 2016.

Before entering elective politics, Wase built experience in technical and public-sector administration. He worked with the Bauchi State Ministry of Environment, where he served in technical and works-related capacities. He later worked at the College of Education, Gindiri, where he held responsibilities connected with technical services, works and physical planning. These positions gave him experience in public administration and infrastructure-related matters before his transition into elective office.

In 2005, Wase was appointed Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, a position he held until 2006. His appointment marked a transition into a more prominent public-service role in Plateau State. He subsequently contested for the Wase Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives and was elected in 2007 under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He retained the seat in the 2011 election, continuing his representation of the constituency at the federal level.

Following the political realignment that led to the formation of the APC, Wase joined the new party and successfully contested the Wase Federal Constituency seat under its platform in 2015. He continued in the House through subsequent elections and became a prominent member of the federal legislature. His legislative career has therefore spanned the 2007–2011, 2011–2015, 2015–2019 and later assemblies, with his continued representation of Wase extending into the 10th National Assembly.

During his time in the House of Representatives, Wase held several important legislative responsibilities. He served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Ninth National Assembly and was also associated with committees including Constitutional Review, Federal Character and Environment. His leadership responsibilities placed him in some of the House's major legislative and constitutional processes. In the 10th National Assembly, he returned as the representative for Wase Federal Constituency under the APC.

His years in public office have also included constituency-oriented interventions, including support for young people and welfare initiatives. Accounts of his public activities have reported grants and welfare assistance directed toward constituents and community members. His professional background in civil engineering and public works has also been reflected in his longstanding involvement in issues relating to infrastructure and development. These activities form part of his broader record of public service in Wase and Plateau State.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wase secured the APC nomination for the Wase Federal Constituency. Reports from the APC's Plateau State National Assembly primaries in May 2026 identified Ahmed Idris Wase as the party's successful candidate for the constituency. An independent compilation of the 2027 final candidate list likewise lists Idris Ahmed under the APC for Wase Federal Constituency.

Wase's political career therefore spans nearly two decades of federal legislative representation, beginning with his election to the House of Representatives in 2007 and continuing through successive National Assemblies. His progression from technical and public-sector employment to the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, followed by long-term parliamentary service and leadership as Deputy Speaker, has established his profile as a longstanding representative of Wase Federal Constituency. His emergence as the APC candidate for the 2027 election places him among the Plateau State politicians seeking another term in the National Assembly.
