Plateau | House of representatives
Hon. Fom Dalyop Chollom is a Nigerian politician and legislator from Plateau State who represents the Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was born on 1 January 1969 and entered the National Assembly following the 2023 general election cycle. He was initially elected under the platform of the Labour Party (LP), although his emergence as the representative of the constituency followed a legal dispute over the 2023 election. He is currently associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chollom's educational qualification is recorded as Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). He is also publicly identified as an engineer and has developed a profile that combines private-sector activity, community engagement and politics. Before his emergence at the federal level, he had been involved in community-oriented activities and had expressed an interest in using his experience to support development within Barkin Ladi and Riyom.
His emergence in the National Assembly came after the 2023 House of Representatives election for Barkin Ladi/Riyom. Although Peter Gyendeng was initially associated with the constituency's election result, subsequent legal proceedings affected the outcome. Chollom was eventually declared the winner following a court ruling in September 2023, allowing him to take his seat in the 10th National Assembly.
As a member of the House of Representatives, Chollom has participated in legislative activities relating to agriculture, local government administration, infrastructure and economic development. One of the bills associated with him is the Agricultural Extension Services Revitalization Bill, which was presented for first reading in the House in September 2024. The bill reflected his legislative interest in agricultural productivity and support services for farmers.
Constituency development has also featured prominently in his activities. In an interview in 2024, Chollom described interventions aimed at restoring failed water infrastructure across communities in his constituency. He also discussed plans involving electricity and other basic amenities. At the time, he reported that an empowerment programme had reached about 400 beneficiaries, including tailors, welders, mechanics, farmers, salon operators and soap makers.
Chollom has also been involved in youth and community-oriented programmes. His constituency activities have included empowerment initiatives intended to provide people with practical skills and economic opportunities. In 2026, Plateau APC youth leaders in Riyom publicly cited his constituency interventions, youth empowerment initiatives and healthcare support while expressing support for his return to the House for another term. That endorsement was a statement by the youth group and does not itself determine the electoral outcome.
Politically, Chollom's career has undergone a significant transition. He was elected in 2023 on the Labour Party platform, but in December 2024 he announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress. He cited the political crisis within the Labour Party and what he described as the need for better representation of his constituents as reasons for the move. His defection was formally communicated to the House during plenary, although Labour Party leaders in the House disputed his stated reasons.
For the 2027 general election, current candidate records identify Chollom in the contest for the Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, but there is a notable discrepancy in the available records. Plateau APC supporters and recent reports have publicly backed him for a second term, while the final candidate list reviewed in September 2026 lists Fom Dalyop Chollom under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) rather than APC. Because of this difference between party activity and the final candidate record, his exact party affiliation on the 2027 ballot should be treated cautiously.
Fom Dalyop Chollom's public career therefore combines community involvement, legislative representation and political realignment. Since entering the House of Representatives, he has focused part of his constituency activities on water infrastructure, electricity, empowerment, healthcare and agricultural development, while also sponsoring legislative initiatives. His move from the Labour Party to the APC and his continued appearance in the 2027 electoral process have made him a significant political figure in the Barkin Ladi/Riyom constituency.
