Rivers | House of representatives
Dumnamene Robinson Dekor is a Nigerian politician from Rivers State and a member of the House of Representatives representing the Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency. He was born on 24 February 1968 in Beakogoro Beeri, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State. He has built a political career spanning local government administration, the Rivers State House of Assembly, the state executive cabinet and the National Assembly.
Dekor began his education at State School, Beeri, where he attended from 1974 to 1980. He subsequently attended Federal Government College, Ugwulawo, in present-day Kogi State, from 1980 to 1985. He proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography in 1991. After completing his university education, he undertook the National Youth Service Corps programme between 1992 and 1993 and subsequently worked in Abuja and Port Harcourt.
His early involvement in public administration began at the grassroots level. Between 2002 and 2003, Dekor served as a member of the caretaker committee of the Khana Local Government Council, where he held the position of Supervisor for Works. He later worked with the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, serving as a Senior Personnel Officer and Electoral Officer in charge of Ahoada East between 2004 and 2006. These positions gave him experience in local administration and electoral affairs before he moved into elective politics.
In 2007, Dekor was elected to the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Khana State Constituency II. His colleagues subsequently elected him Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2008, a position he held until 2011. His tenure in the state legislature established him as a significant figure in Rivers State politics and provided him with experience in legislative leadership before his transition to the federal level.
Dekor later entered the executive arm of the Rivers State Government, where he served as Commissioner for Works. The National Assembly profile records his tenure as Commissioner for Works in 2017–2018, while his political career also included a brief period in the House of Representatives after he won election in 2015 to represent Khana/Gokana. His 2015 tenure was subsequently affected by a judicial decision, after which he returned to state government service.
In 2019, Dekor returned to the House of Representatives and won election to represent the Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency. During that legislative term, he was appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Host Communities. He was re-elected in 2023, again representing Khana/Gokana, and continued as Chairman of the Committee on Host Communities in the 10th National Assembly. His legislative interests include policies and motions intended to improve living standards, while his stated constituency objectives include youth empowerment and support for less-privileged residents.
Dekor's political career has also been affected by the wider political realignment in Rivers State. Although he served in the National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), records from early 2026 indicate that he moved from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This placed him among a number of Rivers State politicians who changed political affiliation during the period of realignment involving allies of former Rivers State Governor and then FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
In May 2026, Dekor contested the APC House of Representatives primary for the Gokana/Khana Federal Constituency. He won the primary with 17,073 votes, defeating Israel Lebura Ngbuelo, who received 1,220 votes. His victory secured the APC nomination for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election, making him the party's candidate for another term in the House of Representatives.
Dumnamene Robinson Dekor's career therefore covers several levels of government, from local government administration to the Rivers State legislature, state executive office and the National Assembly. His experience includes legislative leadership as Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, executive responsibility as Commissioner for Works and federal legislative service representing Khana/Gokana. As the APC candidate for the constituency in 2027, he is set to continue his political career at the federal level and seek another mandate from the people of Khana and Gokana.
