About Asalu Ayodele David (Hon.)

Hon. Engineer Asalu Ayodele David, popularly known as Asler, is a Nigerian politician, engineer and community advocate from Osun State. He is a prominent political figure in the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency and is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election. His political activities have largely centred on grassroots engagement, community development and efforts to improve opportunities for residents of the constituency.

Asalu has a background in engineering and has been involved in public affairs and political organisation in Osun State for several years. He became particularly known within the state's political circles through his activities as a member and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His experience has included working with people at the grassroots level and participating in political mobilisation across the four local government areas that make up the Ede Federal Constituency.

His interest in federal legislative politics became prominent before the 2019 general election, when he sought the PDP ticket to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing the Ede Federal Constituency. Although he did not secure the party's nomination at the time, he remained active in political and community affairs. In an interview following the 2019 election, he explained that his political ambition was motivated by his desire to contribute to the development of the constituency and that his previous experience working with the National Assembly had given him an understanding of legislative processes.

Following his unsuccessful bid for the 2019 PDP ticket, Asalu continued to engage in community-oriented programmes. He became involved in empowerment initiatives and other activities intended to support residents of the Ede Federal Constituency. His public activities have included attention to issues such as education, healthcare, economic empowerment and opportunities for young people. He has also spoken publicly about shortcomings in healthcare services in Ejigbo, drawing from his personal experience of a medical emergency in the community.

Asalu later moved into the APC and emerged as one of the party's prominent figures in Osun State. His political realignment became part of the wider movement of former PDP figures within the state. By 2026, he was openly operating within the APC and had begun preparations for another attempt at securing a seat in the National Assembly. In April 2026, he formally declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency under the APC.

His 2027 campaign has involved extensive grassroots consultations across the constituency, particularly in Ejigbo Local Government. During these engagements, he has met with community leaders, artisans, farmers, traders, youths and other groups while discussing issues affecting their communities. His political activities have emphasised inclusive representation, economic empowerment, infrastructure, education and employment opportunities.

The APC subsequently listed Asalu Ayodele David as its candidate for the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency for the 2027 House of Representatives election. His candidacy places him in a constituency covering four local government areas and represents his return to the National Assembly contest after earlier attempts to secure a federal legislative seat.

If elected in 2027, Asalu would be responsible for representing the interests of the people of Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo at the Federal House of Representatives. His legislative responsibilities would include participating in lawmaking, budget consideration and oversight of government agencies, while also advocating for federal projects and programmes that address the needs of his constituents. His political profile ahead of the election is therefore centred on his previous experience in political organisation, grassroots engagement and his stated interest in providing representation for the Ede Federal Constituency.
