Niger | House of representatives
Hon. Abubakar Adamu is a Nigerian politician from Niger State and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is associated with the Chanchaga Federal Constituency and emerged as the APC candidate for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abubakar Adamu is the son of former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar. His family background has placed him within one of Niger State's prominent political families, although his own political career has developed through his participation in partisan politics and electoral contests.
He previously contested for the Chanchaga Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 House of Representatives election under the APC platform. Although he did not win that election, he remained active in the constituency's political affairs and subsequently returned to contest the seat ahead of the 2027 election.
In May 2026, Abubakar Adamu participated in the APC House of Representatives primary election for Chanchaga. He emerged as the party's candidate after receiving 30,650 votes, defeating Nmaa Ahmed, who polled 1,271 votes, while another aspirant, Shuaibu Mairago, received 311 votes.
The Chanchaga Federal Constituency covers Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State and includes Minna, the state capital. The constituency is politically significant because of its population and its position as the administrative centre of Niger State.
As the APC's 2027 candidate, Abubakar Adamu is seeking to make the transition from a previous unsuccessful electoral contest to federal legislative representation. His campaign is therefore focused on securing the Chanchaga seat and representing the interests of residents of the constituency in the House of Representatives.
Abubakar Adamu's political profile combines his background as the son of a former Nigerian Head of State with his own participation in Niger State politics. His 2027 candidacy represents his second major attempt to win the Chanchaga Federal Constituency seat and begin a career in the National Assembly.
